The information we collect

  • Enquiries: when you use the contact form on our website we collect your name, business name, contact telephone number, email address, the subject of your enquiry and your message.
  • Trade account applications: if you apply to open a trade account we collect the business and contact details you enter on the application form, which may include company details, contact names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses and trade references.
  • Job applications: if you send us your CV, we collect the information it contains together with any covering email.
  • Emails and telephone calls: if you contact us directly we keep a record of the correspondence and the details you give us.
  • Website and security data: when you visit our website, our web server and security software record technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the date and time of your visit. This is used to keep the website secure, block spam and investigate misuse.

How we use your information and our legal basis

  • To respond to your enquiries and provide quotes, information and customer service – legitimate interests (running and promoting our business) or, where you are asking us to supply goods, steps taken at your request before entering into a contract.
  • To assess trade account applications and to open and manage trade accounts, including credit checks where relevant – contract and legitimate interests.
  • To supply and deliver goods, invoice and collect payment – contract and legal obligation (for example, tax and accounting records).
  • To consider job applications – steps taken at your request before entering into a contract and legitimate interests.
  • To keep our website secure and protect it from spam and abuse – legitimate interests.
  • To set non-essential cookies on our website – your consent, which you can withdraw at any time (see “Cookies” below).

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for automated decision-making or profiling.

Who we share your information with

We only share your information where necessary, with service providers who act on our instructions and are required to keep it secure. These include:

  • our website hosting and maintenance provider (FishVan);
  • Microsoft, which provides our email service, including the delivery of website form notifications;
  • Google reCAPTCHA, which helps protect our contact form from spam and automated abuse. reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software information, such as device and application data, and sends it to Google for analysis. Its use is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service;
  • Typeform, which hosts our online trade account application form;
  • delivery and courier companies, credit reference agencies, our accountants, banks, insurers and professional advisers, where needed to supply goods, manage accounts or meet legal requirements.

We may also disclose information if required to by law or to protect our rights, property or safety, or those of others.

International transfers

Some of our service providers (such as Google, Microsoft and Typeform) may process data outside the UK. Where this happens, the transfer is protected by an adequacy decision or appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep your information

  • General enquiries: up to 2 years after our last contact with you, unless the enquiry leads to an account or order.
  • Customer and trade account records: for as long as your account is open, then for 6 years after it closes, to meet accounting and legal requirements.
  • Unsuccessful job applications: up to 6 months after the role has been filled, unless you agree to us keeping your details on file for longer.
  • Website security and spam logs: normally no more than 12 months.
